Personal
More than 20 years ago, give or take a few wild weekends, I started teaching wilderness medicine. At the time, 1984, there were only a few of us involved in wild med, and here "involved" means it was a job. There were plenty of students, but we lacked books to support our teaching. I started writing them. The first two, Medicine for the Backcountry and Backcountry First Aid & Extended Care, are still in print. My most recent wild med book, Wilderness First Responder, was honored by the American Medical Writers Association with an award for excellence. I can't imagine a better life than what I've lived, more than two decades of teaching people to care for people. I've been mighty privileged to hang out with the best folks in the world. I greatly enjoy give and take with those who have read my books and/or taken a course from me. Feel free to send me a thought, comment, or question. Best wishes, Buck

Buck the Author
As an editor who has had the privilege of working with Buck on a couple of the books he mentions in his blog, I can attest to the good reasons why his titles are not only still in print, but still selling strong. Buck offers not only solid and noteworthy information on backcountry medicine and first aid, but a personality and character that makes his books a pleasure to read. And being in the unique position of actually working with him while he writes and revises these best-selling books has given me a greater appreciation not only for the books themselves, but for the person penning their pages. There's only one thing finer than the information in Buck's books and that's the person writing them. Thanks, Buck, for the great additions over the years to our libraries and personal book shelves. - Scott
