New hiking trail
I recently helped blaze the primitive trails at a new State of Tennessee Natural Area, Riverwoods. The trail traverses a varied section of the natural area and is protected under the State of Tennessee Natural Heritage Act. Hikers will enjoy the trail that is abundant with native plants and hardwoods and animal life. Of particular interest is the wetland section which is home to many species including the blue Heron. The site is managed by the City of Germantown Park Rangers who just received a grant from the Tennessee Trails and Greenway Foundation that will provide for the materials that will be used to construct a raised wood footpath over the wetlands. Local volunteer groups will provide the labor to construct the walkway. Most importantly, The Riverwoods trails will contect with the City of Germantown's extensive Greenway system, which when connected up with the Memphis Greenway and the Collierville Greenway will provide for a total of 27 miles of unintrupted greenway trails.

How do we get involved
This is really great. How can others get involved in projects like these? Any other natural areas or state parks that might have similar programs worth looking into?
