The biggest change in the capital area is the proliferation of cancellations for the Potomac Heritage Trail. I’m still tracking down the new stamps in the district’s city parks...more soon.

New cancellation for Francis Scott Key Memorial at Washington Monument Bookstore
You’ll find a new cancellation for the Francis Scott Key Memorial (which is a bridge, by the way) at the Washington Monument Bookstore. This building is also known as Monument Lodge, and it’s the place to which all of the stamps were relocated from the Survey Lodge, on the other side of the monument. You’ll find many cancellations here for just about all the monuments and memorials included under the umbrella title, “National Mall & Memorial Parks.”
New cancellations at GWMP
George Washington Memorial Parkway’s headquarters in Turkey Run Park has three new cancellations. So far, these three new ones are only available at the park’s headquarters—you won’t find them at Great Falls Park or Arlington House, where the Parkway has placed duplicates of cancellations before. (If you are traveling and you do find these three at an alternate location, please let me know!)
The new cancellations are for the following:
• Georgetown Waterfront Park
• Montrose & Dumbarton Oaks Parks
• Rock Creek & Potomac Parkway

Many more stamps on the Potomac Heritage Trail
This will make you wonder if there’s a competition between the Potomac Heritage Trail and the Hudson River Valley Heritage Area to have the most Passport cancellations: In December 2009, Potomac Heritage placed an order for 16 new stamps! This brings the trail’s total to 38, reaching across three regions of the Passport program (Mid-Atlantic, National Capital and Southeast).
I’ll work on putting together a list with all of the street addresses. In the meantime, you can download a one-sheet posted by the trail’s staff, with all of the location listed. It’s here.
