Boulder, Colorado resident Bob Horan has climbed for over 35 years. As a teenager he climbed the Grand and Middle Tetons in Wyoming, and El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite Valley. He has established hundreds of new routes and boulder problems in the Boulder area, pushing standards with such climbs as the first free ascent of the Rainbow Wall (Eldorado Canyon’s first 5.13) as well as Beware the Future (5.14) in the Flatirons. He believes the skills he developed bouldering allowed him to push free-climbing standards on longer routes. He has also dabbled in competition climbing, placing second in the Masters category at the first annual Horsetooth Hang, third in the Men’s Elite division at the first National Climbing Competition in Washington, D.C., and second in the Men’s Speed Climbing at the first Continental Climbing Championships. Horan has published numerous photographs and articles in various climbing magazines, and he has authored some of the first bouldering guidebooks ever written. At the University of Colorado in Boulder he graduated magna cum laude in psychology and completed an honors thesis in behavioral neuroscience. His children—now in high school—have enjoyed bouldering with their dad throughout Colorado.

More Than 1,000 Premier Boulder Throughout the State
by Bob Horan

Bouldering Colorado is the first single-volume guide to one of the world’s premier bouldering destinations. It covers the best bouldering found throughout Colorado, with descriptions of more than 1,000 boulders – hundreds of which have never appeared in any book – and almost 4,000 individual problems. Written by longtime Colorado climber Bob Horan, this guide includes both traditional favorites and new discoveries that fuel the fire of the boulder’s quest, from the Front Range to Summit County to the Western Slope. Geared to all skill levels, Bouldering Colorado is the essential guide for climbers ready to explore one of America's most boulder-endowed states.

A Call for Responsible Bouldering

We support the Access Fund. As increasing numbers of climbers take to the cliffs and boulders, the role of the Access Fund becomes more critical to the future of our sport. FalconGuides takes seriously the sensitive nature of access issues and strives to promote low-impact climbing and bouldering practices. All climbers need to take responsibility for their actions and become active participants in maintaining future access to the areas we love.

With a book of this scope on a subject as dynamic as bouldering in a state as active and involved as Colorado, there’s bound to be some level of controversy, disagreement, and debate over the information presented.
