FalconGuide's Trailhead

The Trailhead

Welcome to the FalconGuides Trailhead. This is your starting point to a community filled with experts and enthusiasts who all share a passion for the outdoors and an interest in sharing their stories, photos, and experiences with others.

In order to write blogs, upload and share photos, post topics to forums, belong to groups, and other great stuff, you must first create an account. It's safe, free, and easy.

Once you've created an account, you can create a profile. The more information you add to your profile, the easier and more fun it will be to connect with other users. For instance, listing your favorite Outdoor Activities will allow you to locate other members with similar interests, and they with you. By listing your State or Town makes it easier for you and others nearby to connect. So add as much about yourself as you can and get the most out of this community as possible.
Forums, or discussion groups, are a great place for posting questions, getting answers, starting a conversation, and getting feedback from dozens or hundreds of active users. We've created just such a place for folks interested in talking about hiking, climbing, mountain biking, or whatever. So get involved and join a discussion, create a new topic, and find some answers! And if you feel that we need to create a new forum, or perhaps break out an existing forum into sub-forums, just let us know and we'll have it ready for you right away.

Spotted is FalconGuide’s online picture forum where users in the outdoor community can build collections of photos and share them with others. It's free and available to all online registered users. The site has three main sections, "We Spotted" and "You Spotted" and "Community Galleries".

"We Spotted" features photos taken by FalconGuide’s staff at events throughout the community. These event pictures are then uploaded into an event gallery created by our staff. An example might be a FalconGuide covering a cycling event, a trade show, or a climbing competition.

"You Spotted" photos are user contributed and grouped by user created collections and galleries. Registered users are free to create collections which house galleries, which in turn house photos. An example of this might be a user’s latest trip to Yosemite or kayak trip down the Upper Gauley.

"Community Galleries" are themed galleries created by the FalconGuides staff but are filled by user contributed photos. An example might be a gallery called "Hiking in Virginia" which is filled with pictures that users upload of their hiking trips in the Old Dominion.

So if you’ve been on a recent walk in the woods, climbed a big wall in Yosemite, or camped under the stars and happened to snap a bunch of digital photos, share them here. We'd love to see them!

A blog (web log) is a user-generated page where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs are great for providing commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, favorite climbing area, skills and technique, gear, or local news. Some blogs function as more personal trip diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Naturally, the ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of blogging, and you'll find plenty of ways to comment and review the blogs on this site.

Groups are categories of users who share common interests such as sports, hobbies, games etc. As a registered user, you can join as many groups as you like. You can also start your own group. And each time you write a blog, just select the group or groups you'd like to publish it into, and you're all set.

Creating a group on Falcon.com will help like-minded community members find each other. See creating a group for more details.
