Epic Adventures

<p>Currently I&#39;m paddling the entire Texas Gulf Coast, from the Rio Grande (border with Mexico) to Sabine Pass (border with Louisiana). Look for the articles this summer and fall in <a href="http://www.texassportingjournal.com">Texas Sporting Journal</a>.</p><p>Upcoming in August: Blackfin tuna, dolphin and sharks on fly rods, from kayaks.</p>

Favorite Outdoor Destinations

I have a couple of favorite outdoor destinations in Texas. The rivers of the Edward&#39;s Plateau -- we call it the &quot;Hill Country&quot; are absolutely gorgeous. Clear, cold and spring-fed, they are often surrounded by towering limestone bluffs and lined with cypress trees. On the coast, the Lower Laguna Madre is a truly unique marine ecosystem; one of only a handful of hypersaline estuaries in the world, the 110-mile-long bay averages less than 3 feet deep and boasts extensive seagrass meadows. Tarpon, snook, red drum and spotted seatrout thrive here (we like to call it the &quot;Texas Keys&quot;), ocelots and jaguarundis prowl its shoreline and Peregrine falcons and Piping plovers also call it home for part of the year.
